Columbia College Chicago Theatre - Season 2021-22

My team and I worked with Columbia's theatre department to create promotional materials such as posters, playbills, postcards, and social media web tiles amongst other deliverables. As a lead designer for a theatre department, I was responsible for creating visually engaging and informative promotional materials that accurately reflected the tone and content of each production. This included designing posters that captured the essence of the plays or musicals, creating playbills that provided important information about the production and its cast and crew, designing postcards to be mailed to potential audiences, and creating eye-catching social media web tiles and banners to be shared online. To excel in this role, I leaned on my strong eye for composition, typography, and color. As well as have a good understanding of print production processes and social media marketing strategies. Attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines were also important qualities for this role. Working for the school's theatre department I had the chance to work closely with directors, and other members of the creative team to bring each production to life. You would also have the satisfaction of knowing that your designs are helping to promote the arts and bring audiences to the theatre.

Loteria Cards & T-Shirt for stage crew

La Loteria is a traditional game of chance, lotería—the Spanish word for lottery—is often referred to as Mexican bingo, where illustrated cards depicting the Mexican aesthetic replace bingo balls. Although this
project didn't incorporate the game, we agreed that creating a Loteria inspired composite poster showcasing elements of all five plays would help the cohesiveness we were trying to create between all five plays. Everything from color to typography and illustration style would live on this composite poster to spark interest and give the viewer a sneak peek into the plays of the season. This composite piece was scaled up and placed on a wall in the lobby of the theatre main stage. T-shirts were also put together for the crew to wear.

Bosch Power Tools

Bosch Power Tools partners with businesses for which templates, banners and digital content needs to be created. Adhering to brand standards at every touchpoint allowed my team and I to build brand awareness across different business units and craft on-brand content for digital and print.

Working alongside a senior graphic designer and channel manager, we came together for a refresh of our outdated promotional templates as a side project to our overarching enhanced content project. This refresh would be used by internal and external partners across various digital platforms and physical spaces.

'A+ enhanced content' is a project that an additional senior graphic designer and I worked on for the past year and a half. Research into specific power tool(s) was done in order to help the shopper understand top benefits of the tool. This research was then translated into graphical tiles showcasing the product's top benefits which would be uploaded onto Amazon.com (GKS18V-22N below).

Side Practice Coffee

Side Practice Coffee, formally known as Side Project Coffee, is a coffee shop located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood in Chicago. My team and I had the pleasure of working with owner Francis Almeda to bring this online publication to you.

As a self ran magazine, our priority was to create a magazine that flowed as one but hit on different topics that we deemed important or relevant at the time. The team consisted of about 12 members, all with different skill sets and backgrounds. As one of three graphic designers on the team, we were tasked with research work, exploration locations, and hosting interviews. Moreover, when all articles were completed and ready to be implemented onto our website, the three of us were assigned different articles to be designed for web.

An article I lead with a photographer is called Side Practice Coffee, my teammate was able to visit the shop and take incredible photos of the space, drinks and food. Once we deemed which photos were to be used, I started ideating layout ideas. Knowing that the interview was going to flow down the page as you scrolled down, I wanted to experiment with the placement of images and copy. I decided to alternate the two and have them act as a stream flowing downward as your eyes follows the interview.

The 'X' you see below stands for the number 10 which also
represented the issue of the magazine. GIF was created by a team member.

Life Outside Pakistan Publication

The observation publication was manifested out of the need to tell a story many people have and will experience. I put together a mini publication that depicted the experiences and emotions of Uzma and her family as they navigated their way to America.

My goal for this mini publication was to keep it clean, bright and visually interesting while having it be easily digestible. The typefaces I decided to use complimented each other well, without having them be polar opposite but instead slightly different. By using a green color, I hoped to pay homage to the Pakistani flag which uses a darker green as one of its main colors. Yellow was used as it is a analogous color and is aesthetically pleasing to look together, as is Pakistans landscape.

American History X

The Issues publication came about during the protests and riots that were taking place across America due to social injustice. This is an issue that has long been present within our communities and our institutions. This publication was created as a way to bring light to what is being done around Chicago to fight this issue, my own personal experiences with racism and what you can do to stay informed.

Visually striking is how I would describe this mini informative publication. Embedded with my personal experiences with racism, and images of protests from around the world, I placed copy on my spreads in a systematic way to help guide the reader through and around the magazine. I hoped to create something that would be eye catching, short enough for a quick read and hopefully inform on this issue. I deliberately chose specific copy to be in red to bring more attention to it and scaled the images for emphasis. american history x.

Type Specimen Exploration - Bembo

Bembo is a typeface that was highly influential to the development of print and typefaces. By using different styles of the font, hierarchy was achievable by enhancing the visibility of the styles, primarily Bembo Regular. By scaling the letter 'B', the characteristics of the typeface flourish. Other elements include; a historical background of the typeface, a quote, and a classification.

Chicago CTA

The art deco poster captures the bustling metropolis of Chicago. In the foreground, a sleek Metra train rushes past, creating an aura of speed and modernity. The train's streamlined design reflects the Art Deco movement's fascination with geometric shapes and symmetry. The poster's color palette is subdued, with muted shades of gray and black dominating the skyline. The moody atmosphere is enhanced by the dramatic contrast between light and shadow, which emphasizes the city's towering skyscrapers. The Chicago skyline is the star of the show, with iconic landmarks like the Willis Tower and the John Hancock Center proudly on display. The buildings precise lines show off their angular shapes and towering heights.Despite the poster's somber mood, there is a sense of excitement and energy in the air. The Metra train and the city's soaring buildings symbolize progress, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of the future. This art deco piece is a fitting tribute to the Windy City, a place where tradition and modernity coexist in perfect harmony.

My second poster (upper right) features the Chicago skyline and a plane flying above it in black, gold, and dark brown tones to create a mood of luxury, sophistication, and elegance. The poster's color scheme is dominated by a rich black background, with the city skyline depicted in dark brown tones that convey a sense of history and tradition. The gold accents add a touch of glamour and opulence, highlighting the poster's subject matter. The plane positioned above the skyline, is depicted soaring through the sky as it flys in front of the moon.
